Therapeutic Approaches

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR helps the brain reprocess distressing memories, easing the emotional intensity they trigger. It can support individuals coping with infertility, pregnancy loss, or birth-related trauma, helping them feel more emotionally balanced and present.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps individuals identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that contribute to distress. CBT can support people experiencing anxiety, depression, or stress related to infertility, pregnancy, or parenting challenges, promoting healthier coping and emotional resilience.

Neurodivergent-affirming Care

Neurodivergent-affirming care is an approach that recognizes, respects, and supports the unique neurological and cognitive differences of each individual. It ensures that care is tailored to the needs of neurodivergent parents or prospective parents, promoting understanding, accessibility, and emotional well-being throughout the perinatal period and beyond.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

ERP is a type of therapy that helps individuals face anxiety-provoking thoughts or situations in a structured way while reducing compulsive behaviors. ERP can support people struggling with intrusive and scary thoughts related to fertility, pregnancy, or postpartum, helping them regain a sense of control and reduce distress.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a practice that cultivates present-moment awareness and nonjudgmental acceptance of thoughts and feelings. In reproductive and perinatal mental health, mindfulness can help individuals manage anxiety, stress, and emotional challenges related to fertility, pregnancy, or parenting, fostering calm, clarity, and resilience.

Trauma-informed Care

Trauma-informed care is an approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and prioritizes safety, trust, and empowerment in treatment. It ensures that care is sensitive to past or current trauma, supporting parents in healing, reducing re-traumatization, and promoting emotional well-being throughout fertility, pregnancy, and in the first years of parenting.

Interpersonal Psychotherapy for Perinatal (IPT-P)

IPT-P is a short-term therapy that focuses on improving relationships and communication to reduce mood symptoms. IPT-P can help new parents navigate role transitions, manage relationship stress, and build social support, supporting emotional well-being during pregnancy and early parenthood.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a therapy that helps individuals access and process deep-seated emotional and physical trauma by identifying specific “brainspots” linked to distress. It can support people coping with pregnancy loss, infertility, birth trauma, or anxiety, promoting emotional release and healing.

Person-centered Care

Person-centered care is an approach that places the individual’s values, preferences, and goals at the heart of their care. It ensures that treatment is tailored to each person’s unique experiences and needs, fostering respect, collaboration, and emotional well-being throughout fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, and after loss.
