Perinatal Mental Health
“It is only in our darkest hours that we may discover the true strength of the brilliant light within ourselves that can never, ever, be dimmed.” –Doe Zantamata

Perinatal Mental Health refers to mental health issues that arise during pregnancy and up to one year postpartum. Perinatal mental health struggles can vary greatly. It can look like struggling with feelings of apprehension about a pregnancy, overwhelm with a new baby, and loneliness at this big change in life. It can also look like a significant mental health condition.

Formally referred to as Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMAD), birthing persons can develop mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and bipolar disorder. Research supports that 1-in-5 birthing persons and 1-in-10 non-birthing partners experience PMAD.
